Based on several customer requests, Fiberpreg team has developed a reliable process to produce efficiently light-weight UD prepregs with a FAW of only 70-80 g/sqm, and again moved its technical limits to the top. While our lightest regularly produced UD has already only a FAW of 100 g/sqm, we moved forward significantly.
These extremely light-weight UDs can be manufactured on our line with both visual and structural matrix systems from our established and well-known epoxy range. The width is standard with 600mm.
This latest development opens new solutions for a variety of applications in sports & leisure, and many other industries, where weight is the key factor – as lighter as better.
After more than a year-long testing with selected customers, we have officially launched the softer version of our well recognized visual epoxy system EP4.5 – the EP4.5S. The resin system keeps the key features of standard EP4.5, such as excellent surface part quality with a standard autoclave process. On top it is very soft and with perfect drapability. The prepreg with EP4.5S resin matrix is thus especially suitable for easy layup of complex parts and can improve the clean room efficiency due to faster layup process.
Fiberpreg successfully launched its EP4.5 resin system for another visual exterior set for an European premium OEM. Despite the parts are complex and build with several single layers of prepreg and different materials, they achieve excellent surface quality with a standard autoclave process, both in carbon and aluminum moulds. The required laboratory tests confirmed once again what EP4.5 stands for - very high resistance against environmental impacts.
A new type of visual prepreg made with camouflage woven (link) carbon fabrics was introduced as part of our standard offering. The material has 210-240 g/sqm in a standard width of 125 cm and we impregnate it with our proven visual resin-system EP4.5. The prepreg is greatly appreciated by many of our customers from motorsport, leisure items and luxury cars.
Our visual epoxy resin-system EP4.5 has been released recently on a serial seat project for a renowned European motorbike producer. Both, perfect visual appearance and high mechanical properties, especially vibration resistance, were required and thoroughly reviewed by the OEM. Excellent surface quality of parts for clear-coat painting and easy lay-up were especially appreciated by our customer.
Fiberpreg is intensively developing the area of natural fibers for high performance applications such as motorsport, leisure or automotive. We work closely together with Bcomp and their ampliTex™ fabrics, having internally developed an impregnation process specific for natural fibers to reach best possible mechanical properties as well as prepreg and surface quality. We offer standard resin content of 45% and increased resin content of 65% for powerRibs™ applications, enabling our clients to manufacture parts with similar weight parameters as full carbon ones.
Fiberpreg has launched new bio based version of our standard epoxy resins. Our bio resins with almost 30% bio degradable content are successfully used by customers for both autoclave as well as fast curing applications. If combined with natural fibers, the resulting prepreg can have up to 70% bio share.
We installed a new X-ray area measurement system for permanent monitoring of resin content across the entire length and width of our products. With this measurement system we can steer the resin content very precisely during production and we can prove the resin content to our customers as we have traceability of every single meter that we produce.
